Nativity Catholic School students incorporate prayer and sacraments into daily school life. Each day starts with prayer led by students and the staff. Teachers use prayer and Scripture throughout the day to teach about the way we should treat others and the way in which we should honor God. Nativity students and staff, from Kindergarten to 8th grade, come together weekly, as well as other holy days, to celebrate Mass.
Baptism - Students who have not been baptized before entering school and whose parents would like to work with them to receive the sacrament are welcome to contact the Parish Office for information on celebrating the sacrament of baptism. You may reach the Nativity Parish Office at (317) 359-1200.
Reconciliation - Second grade is the year in which our students receive the sacrament of Reconciliation. Daily religion classes, along with family learning activities, involve the entire family in celebrating the sacrament.
Nativity students in grades 2-8 have an opportunity to receive the sacrament of Reconciliation twice during the school year (Advent and Lent).
Eucharist - Many of our students also receive the sacrament of Eucharist for the first time in second grade. Daily religion classes prepare students to receive the sacrament while family sharing and activities enable the entire family to celebrate. Students who are not Catholic are welcome to come forward during Mass for a blessing when others are receiving Eucharist.
Confirmation - At Nativity, students are confirmed in eighth grade or high school. Please contact the Parish Center, at (317) 359-1200 for more information.
The religion curriculum at Nativity is based on the Religion standards written by the Archdiocese of Indianapolis. The religion curriculum, in addition to other curricula from the Archdiocese, can be found at www.archindy.org/oce/index.asp. The Archdiocese of Indianapolis released an addendum to the Religion Curriculum on Dec. 6, 2011. This addendum can be found here.
